The Singapore Young Entrepreneurs Award (SYEA), a not-for-profit initiative founded by JCI (Marina) Singapore and co-organised with People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM), announced the 30 winners across their 6 award categories of their first batch on 20th March

Launched on 26th September 2020 by Member of Parliament (MP) for MacPherson SMC, Tin Pei Ling, SYEA’s mission in creating a sustainable, ongoing business ecosystem for entrepreneurs to build upon each other’s experiences and expertise across different industries while giving back to society has completed its first successful cycle.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the initial group of 250 nominees were chosen among up-and-coming entrepreneurs under the age of 35. The nominees were given opportunities to be mentored by successful young entrepreneurs such as Alvin Poh whose company Vodien Internet Solutions was acquired for $30 million in 2017. They were also given insights into doing business across the region through masterclasses and webinars.

The experiences leading up to the finishing line had been varied, and intense, but ultimately, valuable. Arthur Choo from Lyfestyle Pte Ltd says, “I felt extremely privileged to be given these two awards – Quality Education Award & Responsible Supply Chain Award. I strongly believe in providing innovative and sustainable education to the next generation. This motivates me to constantly think out of the box and continue to believe that the things we do will make a difference in the community. “

In SYEA’s spirit of nurturing an ongoing business ecosystem, their upcoming finale event will be a 1-day Business Virtual Masterclass and Symposium covering strategic topics for businesses, as well as workshops about operations and management will be held on 24th April, with Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law, Edwin Tong as the Guest of Honour.

RSVP and get more information here.

The symposium program includes the below:

  1. 3 Conference Tracks on:
    1. Digitalisation
    2. Technology trends, patent and grants
    3. Finance & Management
  2. Dialogue sessions
  3. Specialised JCI Training courses
  4. Business Consultancy workshops
  5. Basic Coding workshops,
  6. Entrepreneurship forum  (Come and hear from the SYEA Award Winners), and
  7. Exhibition

Plans for CSR efforts will be co-led by the winners together with JCI Marina Singapore and PAYM in Q2 2021. “COLOURS” is the overall theme of the SYEA Community projects, where there have been 50 committed entries by nominees to co-lead or participate in various Community projects planned for Q2-Q3 2021. They will also be forming SYEA Alumni.

Each colour represents one specific cause supported by the UNSDG Goal, and the Co-organisers JCI Marina Singapore and PAYM will be joining hands with the SYEA Alumni to champion these causes, colour by colour. Grants and Proceeds of funds raised will be channelled to support these community initiatives.

One anchor community project is to donate Colour Blind corrective glasses to a minority of colour blind patients in Singapore. For members of the public who are interested to join hands and be a part of these upcoming community initiatives, the rest of the community projects planned will be revealed during the SYEA Business Symposium on 24 April 2021 (Saturday).
