Meet A Personality

Everybody, Meet Zu Anjalika

Get to know the other side of Anjalika, the ultimate Branding Guru

She may fall in between these two categories of introvert and extrovert, yet as a true-blue Singaporean, she is your ultimate Branding Guru. Fiercely independent and unbelievably goofy, let’s find out what Anjalika is up to now.

What are you up to lately?

For the last couple of months, I have been working with a group of dedicated individuals to bring around a conference on women disruptors. I am a disruptor myself so this project is totally close to my heart. To know more, watch this space!

Where are you now?

I divide my time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have always been asked if I am indeed a Singaporean because of my super-long name and the answer is yes, a true-blue Singaporean. I pride myself as the island girl with a cosmopolitan view, which is pretty much what the Lion City is all about.

I have been in marketing and communications for the longest time. I took a couple of years hiatus to travel the world as a trailing spouse and about five years ago, establish our base in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Now, I divide my time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

A wife to the most amazing man and a mamma of two gorgeous boys, I run Marketing In Asia, Singapore while juggling my other passion as an Image Branding and Lifestyle Coach. Besides that, I am also a certified yoga and wellness instructor, with a column in YogaMail – the industry journal for yoga and wellness enthusiasts.

Recently, I started my journey in public speaking and have never looked back since; I enjoy it thoroughly. Emceeing is another passion I did many years ago and has been buried deep until last year, when I was invited to emcee a couple of shows in Kuala Lumpur and what do you know, that gets reignited.

An avid reader and passionate dancer, I am truly obsessed with the space I am living in right now; the world of information is literally on my fingertips; excites me to the core.

Your zodiac?

I am an absolute Aries; fiercely independent, unbelievably goofy and oooooh, so passionate.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

I fall in between these two categories; I love being with people yet I am also very protective of my alone time.

Your official designation now is?

I am the Founder of Zu Anjalika Image Branding & Lifestyle and of course, the Editor/Partner, Singapore – Marketing In Asia

Marketing is broad, what’s your speciality?

Without doubt, branding.

What do you love about Marketing?

The non-ending possibility of being creative.

What do you hate about Marketing?

There is nothing I hate about marketing, however, there is one thing that can be bothersome; the unwritten rulebook. Some might argue there is a standard marketing process for any project. The way I see it, there are many different approaches to a given project – depending on the company’s structure, culture, regulations and the list goes on.

When thinking, you’d like to be alone or with people?

Most definitely alone. I cannot think when there is noise around me.

Your ideas, most of them came from?

Places I visit, people I meet. I cannot imagine not being able to travel and experience the different cultures and personalities beyond my shore; they are truly the source of my creativity.

Are you a digital nomad or office freak?

Too easy – a digital nomad. I love working in cafes, beach clubs, waiting for flights at airports even while watching my kids jump around at the trampoline park!

Your favourite social media?

It’s a toss between LinkedIn for profound, professional contents and Instagram, for the lighter side of life.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I read lots; I can never get enough of books. I am always in the pursuit of nice beaches around. Spend quality time with my very special half, our two out-of-the-world energetic boys and friends.

Who’s your marketing icon?

She is not a marketing icon per se, but Anna Wintour, Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue, has single-handedly changed the publishing world with her innate sense of branding – mind blowing!

What is the first thing you’d do when you’re hired/chosen to handle a new project?

Research, research, research.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

A morning person. I wake up pretty much at 5 am every morning and love the quiet stillness a new day brings at that hour; gives me a natural high.

How do you stay motivated?

Podcast, motivational videos, working out at the gym, having a conversation with those I look-up to.

Ever got ideas from movies or songs?

Yes, I definitely have. Audrey Hepburn’s character in Breakfast At Tiffany’s  gives me inspiration over and over.

The best book you’ve ever read?

It will have to be Toni Morrison’s Beloved – a haunting novel on slavery.

How to contact you?

Through my social media: Instagram and LinkedIn.
